Kate: Hello. Welcome to Forever 35, A podcast about the things we do to take care of ourselves. I am Kate Spencer.

Doree: And I'm Doree Shafrir.

Kate: And we are not experts.

Doree: We're not, we're two friends who like to talk a lot about serums,

Kate: And this is a mini episode where we hear from you, we share your comments and your thoughts, and we answer your questions to the best of our ability.

Doree: But remember, we like to remind you that we are podcast hosts. We're not experts. Some podcast hosts who are experts, that is not us.

Kate: Brene Brown, Brene Brown, an expert in her field,

Doree: But she's not a medical doctor.

Kate: No. No, she's not. So

Doree: We always encourage you to seek support first and foremost, from a medical doctor, mental health professional or Brene Brown.

Kate: That's right.

Doree: What if we changed it to that? We always encourage you to support first and foremost from Brene Brown,

Kate: Brene Brown, and the New York Times advice column.

Doree: Exactly.

Kate: Well before we hear from some listeners, I just have to give a shout out to a product.

Doree: Oh, please do

Kate: To a skincare product that. I use every day and I love,

Doree: Okay, I'm listening. The name

Kate: Of this product is milkshake.

Doree: Okay.

Kate: It is from Beakman 1802. It is their hyaluronic acid and squalene facial toner mist. Now look,

Doree: Kate loves a mist.

Kate: I love a mist, and every time I find a new mist, I get giddy. I get excited.

Doree: Wow. Okay. Okay.

Kate: This stuff is so legit, moisturizing and hydrating on my skin.

Doree: Wow. Okay.

Kate: I love it. I love it. And I also just need to shout out the actual misting, what is the word I would use? Not tool function. Look, sometimes you get a mist and it's like a fire hose and other times you get a mist.

Doree: Totally.

Kate: And it is the finest mist ever to be sprayed. And that is what this stuff is.

Doree: Oh wow.

Kate: Its great. The reason it's called milkshake is because you do have to actually shake it because it's a mix of squalling and a water-based toner.

Doree: Okay, Got it.

Kate: But I really love it. I find if I don't, I to do wash my face in the morning just to kind of prep it for the products I'm about to use. But if I don't, I still use this. It's just as a person who suffers from constantly dehydrated skin, I love this as a pre moisturizer layer. I love it.

Doree: Okay. This is a big endorsement.

Kate: I really, really love this stuff. And to be transparent, this was gifted from the company. I think they heard us talking about soap and offered to send us some stuff.

Doree: So I have been using their bar soap in my shower.

Kate: I have two

Doree: And I do really like it. It's a, it's a large bar of soap.

Kate: Oh my gosh. I was just going to say it's a thick bar soap. It is.

Doree: So yeah, so just be prepared for that going to, and I've also been using their face wash, which I also like

Kate: Beakman. Mini Tino too is kind of sneaking in here. Five ands, sneaking in here doing this pod. We're suddenly Beekman babies.

Doree: sneak in here.

Kate: Yeah, this is a great, are they also, so okay, it's 34 bucks for the eight ounce big honking bottle of this stuff, but they make a two ounce, and this is the kind of stuff I would bring on a plane with me because it is

Doree: Oh, you had mist on the plane.

Kate: Well, I love misting on a plane no matter what

Doree: You do love misting on a plane.

Kate: Some mists are not hydrating. This is going to juice you up.

Doree: Some mists are not plane appropriate.

Kate: How do you mean?

Doree: Some mist have a scent? So to me that feels not plain appropriate if you're like spritzing the cabin,

Kate: Everybody's getting misted today.

Doree: Yeah, that feels a little much.

Kate: This does not have a scent, but you raise an interesting point, a little off topic, but I have since pre covid times, I have always been a Clorox wiper on a plane, but, and I remain self-conscious about it because the smell is so overpowering of these freaking wipes

Doree: That it is a lot.

Kate: On the one hand, I'm like, sorry, I got to get, if there's norovirus lurking on this tray, I got to get it off. But on the other hand, I feel like I'm overwhelming the whole cabin with my wipe.

Doree: Right. Yeah.

Kate: I do think scent sensitivity is a space. We have a lot of work we can do.

Doree: Yeah. Would you consider moving to a seventh generation anti or disinfecting wipe? I realize it's not quite as intense.

Kate: Well, I mean,

Doree: I feel like it's going to kill what you need to kill.

Kate: Yes. And I should also backtrack and say that I'm actually pretty sure Clorox wipes don't kill norovirus. I think you have to get the hospital grade wipes, which I have purchased in my lifetime to keep it home because I'm so terrified of norovirus. I would, yes. I just, I'm to just kind of wipe everything down. Sometimes I use just a wet one handy wipe, which I think is just alcohol basically. So yes, and I honestly have stopped with the Clorox, not just because Doree, I worry about other people being offended by the smell because the smell gives me a headache, but I don't like germs.

Doree: Yeah, this is interesting.

Kate: So anyway,

Doree: It's an interesting canundrum.

Kate: Back to Beakman, you could definitely bring their two ounce milkshake on a plane. Oh, for sure,

Doree: For sure. Yes.

Kate: Yes. I did just buy a tiny two ounce heritage glycerin and rosewater spray to bring on planes for the summer. But I would also say your beakman is going to be a nice treat on a plane if you want to get that too well. So thank you goats. Thank you goats for this product. Excuse me,

Doree: Kate. I have what we call an excellent adventure. An egg signal.

Kate: An egg signal.

Doree: Yeah. Don't ask me how this moniker came about, but basically it's like when someone writes in with a question or a problem that we need to throw out to the audience, we call it, we're sending out the egg signal. So I would like to send out a personal egg signal here on Forever 35.

Kate: Let's hear it. Doree, what is your signal?

Doree: My signal is for people who work out or run or whatever for a long enough time that they get hungry or need energy in the middle of their workouts. What are you eating? I play tennis for an hour and a half and this morning, like 45 minutes to an hour through, I was like, I am hungry and I feel like I'm flagging. And then when I got home, I felt kind of nauseous because I was so hungry and I immediately had some pita crackers to settle my stomach and some liquid iv. I don't love bananas.

Kate: Okay.

Doree: So I mean, I guess I could get a bar, but what kind of bar? What is going to, going to give me a little boost of energy and make me feel a little bit more full, but not make me feel so full that I am tasting my food. You know what I mean?

Kate: And you're eating breakfast before?

Doree: I'm eating breakfast, yes. I eat breakfast. I don't work out on an empty stomach.

Kate: I actually have a suggestion, but you have to bake them. You have to make them, but I bet you could buy something similar.

Doree: What is it?

Kate: Okay, I have the run fast, eat slow cookbooks and they have these things in there called superhero muffins.

Doree: Superhero muffins.

Kate: I'll send you the recipe off their website and I have two of their cookbooks and they have a faster version. I love these. My kids love these. I will note that I don't put nuts or raisins in them because my children don't like that and some, so I'll do a chocolate chip, but they're basically, they use, I think, ground oats, almond meal, zucchini and carrot there. I think there may be one with apple. It's basically just a mix of some protein, some carbs, some fiber, some sugar.

Doree: That's what I need.

Kate: Maple syrup.

Doree: That's what I need. That's what I need. Yes.

Kate: Okay. I think I feel like a muffin with some ingredients that will support the physical movement.

Doree: This is why I asked, because this is exactly what I needed.

Kate: I love a muffin. There's a part of me that wants to be like

Doree: I never would have thought a muffin.

Kate: Oh, I fucking, muffins are look muffins. Get a bad wrap. All right. They're compact. You can bake them in bulk. They're pretty easy to make. You can throw all sorts of weird stuff in there, a zucchini with some cinnamon. Okay. So I just sent you the link and I will include the link off of their website and I'll see if I can find any other recipes that they have. But a muffin's compact, they cook fast.

Doree: No, a muffin is a great idea. That didn't even cross my mind as an option. This is why you are Kate Spencer.

Kate: Now how do you feel about an egg? An egg is egg. It doesn't really travel well, and it's a weird kind of a challenging thing to bust out in the middle of a tennis game. Just wanted to

Doree: No,

Kate: I like having hard boiled eggs in the fridge at home to just grab and Munch On.

Doree: So you know what I made the other day and I actually sent them, I think I sent you the recipe. I made some egg muffins and I've made egg muffins before and I felt like they didn't come out,

Kate: Did send me this recipe

Doree: As good as these did. But I did make some egg muffins the other day that were very good and I would totally make them again.

Kate: I like this as an option in the fridge.

Doree: Yeah, they've been a good in the fridge. Oh, I need I'm some protein or whatever. They're from the website, love and lemons.com, and we will link to these as well. But I guess the secret in them is that they have flour and baking powder in them so they're not gluten free, but I think that helps them become fluffier.

Kate: This is an interesting point because I struggle with just the frittata of it all

Doree: Right. These do not have the same frittata vibes.

Kate: Okay. I love that.

Doree: I also used a shredded cheese, like a Cheddar Monterey Jack mix. The recipe calls for feta, but it says you can use whatever cheese you want, and that was just what I had on hand and I thought it was good. Yeah, these were very good.

Kate: Okay. I might make those. That sounds delicious.

Doree: Yeah.

Kate: I sent you another link. And for our listeners, we'll share this link too for a breakfast cookie recipe from panelist Salzman. And I love making these. I often make, when I'm bringing food to somebody, if they've just had a medical procedure or a child or something like that, I often bring these, they're easy to grab. They're really yummy. They're filling

Doree: Again, something I would not have thought of a breakfast cookie genius

Kate: Together. You and I have a nice little brunch spread right in front of us here, these egg muffins. Love. I feel good about this. I feel good about this.

Doree: Totally.

Kate: Okay, well, Tori, why don't we take a break and when we come back from some of you out there.

Doree: All right, let's do that.

Kate: Oh, but Doree, before we do. Can I just remind everybody that you can call and text us?

Doree: Yes.

Kate: Our number. Call and text us with your quickie breakfasty grabby recipes to go in our new cookbook. Quickie grab, Quickie grabby breakfasty.

Doree: Quickie grabby breakfasty recipe.

Kate: Doree. We had a listener share what they call an eclipse transformation, or maybe that's what I call it. That's what I put in the notes because I talked about how there was an eclipse and then I felt more confident than I had felt in 43 years.

Doree: Oh, that's interesting.

Kate: So somebody else had kind of a experience and they've got a declaration to make that I wanted to share with their voicemail.

Doree: Let's hear that.

Voicemail: Good morning. I'm had to pause the pod and talk about Kate, what you're talking about with the transformation and the feeling, the impact of that eclipse. So I turned 40 last week, shout out to May 16th birthdays, and that day had some energy work done and decided that my forties are my fuck around and find out decade. I've entered a new era and interestingly enough, the next day had an opportunity to utilize this new found power in fuck around and find out when I was essentially verbally assaulted by my boss and her boss, and it bothered me for about 10 minutes. And then I said, huh. Their words don't have any power over me. And what they've said is not true, and I'm going to leave this company and find something amazing. And so ever since the 17th of May, I've been applying for at least 10 jobs a day while still doing my own job, and I feel really powerful and I just wanted to acknowledge that I am in agreement with you, Kate. We're in a new era. Fuck around and find out, man, fuck around and find out. All right, hope you're both having a wonderful day. Happy late birthday to you, Doree. Let's write out the rest of this tour season and get shit done. Love you guys.

Doree: Well, happy birthday to you.

Kate: Wow, that was a powerful message.

Doree: That really was

Kate: The Torrian season.

Doree: I mean, I'm here for it.

Kate: That's for sure.

Doree: Unfortunately, we are out of it now, but oh no.

Kate: Are we in Gemini town?

Doree: We're in Gemini, which I mean, no disrespect if you're a Gemini, but

Kate: I mean I'm married to a Gemini, so I don't know why I'm acting all salty about Gemini. What is Gemini season?

Doree: What? My mom is a Gemini.

Kate: Oh, she is? Okay. Interesting. It says it's going to make us want to socialize as much as possible and it's going to make us want to dream big with confidence. This is a Lincolink ln Woman's health Mag, so

Doree: I can get down with that.

Kate: Those things sound nice.

Doree: Okay. Those things sound pretty nice. All right. I'm okay with that

Kate: Listener. I love that you are in your fuck around and find out era like, yes, I'm ready for this.

Doree: I have a question though. And when this listener says they're in their fuck around and find out era, does that refer to their boss being mean to them? Their boss is fucking around and they're going to find out what the consequences of that are

Kate: Yes. And when that person leaves, they have found out. You fucked it around. They have found out. And now you've found out. Okay.

Doree: Yep. Great. Got it. Wow.

Kate: Powerful. Okay.

Doree: Very Powerful. Powerful.

Kate: Next up, we've got a voicemail from someone thinking about making a big life change.

Voicemail: Hey, Kat and Dor. I am looking for some advice and words of wisdom from you and the other listeners of the pod about going back to school a little bit later in life after having kids. I have a three year old and an 18 month old, and I never finished my bachelor's degree. I have two years left, and I'm starting to just go crazy at home being a stay-at-home mom, and I feel like I have nothing for myself and I really want to start working towards some goals so that I can have a real career by the time my kids are older. But I'm just feeling really daunted by the whole thing. Even though I'm going to start slow and only do one class at a time for a while, I feel like I have such a long road ahead of me and I have these doubts. Can I do this? Is this going to be too hard to do while I have kids? Am I making the right choice? And I would just love to hear some stories from people that have done it, just so I know it's possible. Thank you for all that you do.

Doree: Another egg signal.

Kate: Another egg signal.

Doree: It's not an egg signal. I mean, this is a different podcast, but

Kate: I like the term.

Doree: Yeah, this is a good question for listeners, I think. Yeah, I mean to weigh in on,

Kate: I have not done this, but I do just want to say, I do believe you can totally do this and do it in at your own pace and in your own time. And if it is too overwhelming or daunting or you change your mind, that's okay. You don't have to

Doree: Totally.

Kate: You don't have to finish. You don't have to. You can stop. And I'm sure you have already looked into doing courses online and getting your I'm, there are so many ways to get degrees right now that I think makes it more attainable than maybe 20 years ago. But I just want to say I believe in you and whatever you decide to do and hope maybe someone out there can add advice from a personal experience.

Doree: Yeah. I just want to echo what Kate said.

Kate: Yeah. And I also hear you just on the feeling of the identity loss and having something for yourself that even if it's not going back to school or completing a degree or whatever for everybody, I think that is extremely relatable for parents. For sure, for sure. So I really feel you on that. I mean, why do you think we started this podcast? That's not why, but good enough reason. Alright, Doree

Doree: Kate.

Kate: This was an exciting email to receive. This listener wrote to us. Hi Kat and Dor. My moment to contribute to this podcast has come as an actress, I am well versed in stage makeup as well as makeup for TV and film specifically, I recorded heavily on a soap opera for about seven years. So when you asked how to remove heavy makeup, I felt compelled to share. I'm a huge fan of the Japanese company, D H c, specifically, their deep cleaning oil. Apply two pumps to dry hands, massage into dry makeup, caked face and rinse. I do this in the shower, follow up with CeraVe Cleanser. This works for me every time. D H C is no frills, but the ingredients are high quality and they work on my sensitive skin. Highly, highly recommend.

Doree: This is a hot tip.

Kate: I have this clean oil cleanser and I agree. It's really great and I just want to say how excited I am that someone of stage and screen answered our call.

Doree: Totally.

Kate: We got this and I literally was like, I made that sound.

Doree: Well, I mean, if anyone is going to know how to get makeup off and get your face clean, it's going to be actors.

Kate: Yes. And we've had a couple people write in and one person wrote in as a parent of baseball players because they put that the black stuff under. I think a lot of us athletes do this, those kind of black lines of stuff under their eyes, I think to stop the sun can't, I'm not even sure why. And I'll tell you what I used last night, Doree, for the first time,

Doree: Tell me

Kate: Ponds cold cream.

Doree: Oh, how did it go?

Kate: I mean, review tk, that means to come. It was interesting. I liked it. It is hydrating. It's definitely a choice. It kind of lingers on the skin, but I need to try it more.

Doree: It lingers on the skin.

Kate: I did. I didn't have a ton of makeup on, so I need to put a full face on and then see how it goes.

Doree: Okay. Well, I look forward to hearing more

Kate: Doree before we take a break. Do you want to read this next text message?

Doree: Sure. Hi Kat and Dor question for you both and the Forever35 community. Why do you use two different cleansers when you double cleanse? It was a revelation to me while listening to the pod way back that people did this. I thought we were all just using the same cleanser twice. Please elaborate on what you're using and why.

Kate: Well, the previous listener just told you their exact routine. I think first of all, I don't think you have to use the same cleanser twice. I think the idea is that often a makeup removing balm is the first step and then your kind of traditional, regular, everyday facial cleanser is the second step. So for example, I have the versed cleansing balm and I will use that and then I will use whichever cleanser. I have a LaRoch Posay cleanser I use a lot. I like Klurs Cleanser. I also have been using Vintner's daughter cleanser, which I really like. So I kind of just grab whatever my everyday cleanser is. CeraVe I have two CeraVe cleansers going in the shower. But I always start with a with a makeup removing balm, if you will.

Doree: Yeah. If I am wearing makeup I, I usually do a makeup removing oil, and then another cleanser. If I'm not wearing makeup, I usually just do the cleanser. I don't double cleanse.

Kate: I feel like what I kind of took away from the Ponds cold cream episode that we did where they encouraged you to double cleanse with only paws is that it really is up to you.

Doree: Yes, totally. Totally. All right. Well, Kate, let's take another break and we'll be right back.

All right, we are back. We had a listener ask if we knew of good U P F Sun Protective Clothing, and we had a couple of suggestions, but listeners have also written in with their suggestions. So this listener writes, wanted to share a suggestion for U P F clothing for the listener in mini epp 383. I'm a huge fan of free fly clothing. I started out wearing the tops while fly fishing, but now I find myself wearing the tees everywhere. Everything is U P F and a cozy bamboo blend. Definitely more staples as opposed to trendy styles. I'd say it's a mix between VRI vri and Patagonia's Capline line, and they have an incredible rewards program. They literally sent me a free top one year. Who does that? Hope that helps. Love you guys and all that you do. I've never heard of this brand, have you?

Kate: I have not, but noted.

Doree: Yeah, for sure.

Kate: Cute.

Doree: Yeah. This is

Kate: Very cute. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Intuit into it. Okay, well here's another recommendation. I highly recommend Mott 50 for the listener looking for bathing suit Sun, U P F Rex. They specialize in U P F wear and everything is so cute. It's on the pricey side, but great quality and highly worth it. Mot 50. Sometimes when we get these messages, I'm like, there are so many brands that I just don't know. There's a whole world out there of things where I'm like, what?

Doree: Yeah.

Kate: You ever get that feeling like, I'll learn about something.

Doree: Theres like a bajilian companies,

Kate: Everybody knew about this, but me, I'm too eluding through here. Oh, they have a very cute lemon one piece bathing suit. I find a lot of times the challenge is size inclusivity with a lot of these companies.

Doree: Yeah, for sure. For sure.

Kate: All right. We've got one more here. Doree, you want to take this one away?

Doree: Sure. Lands End has great long-sleeved slash spf, one piece bathing suits as well as other beach and swim gear. That's SPF F for example, I have two long-sleeved shirts to wear if I'm not wearing my longs sleeved bathing suit and everything is really good quality that will last.

Kate: I love a Land's end.

Doree: I have not ordered from them in quite some time, but I believe that they are. I'm checking. They're pretty size inclusive. They go up to three x, which they say is a 24 to 26, and

Kate: They've also got swim shorts, which I like. Ooh,

Doree: Love a swim short.

Kate: Now here's an interesting thing on their website, a chlorine resistant bathing suit.

Doree: What does, oh, that is interesting.

Kate: I've never heard of such a thing. what does that mean?

Doree: It won't like fade from the chlorine or something?

Kate: Yes, it maintains its flattering fit and lasts longer. I might get this bathing suit. They make it in, Here is where, here is something that I struggle with in the bathing suit space story is I am as a tall person.

Doree: Yes.

Kate: I need you to make a bathing suit in long. If you don't make bathing suits in long

Doree: Lands end has tall, right?

Kate: They do. They have, well, they call it long. They have petite and long,

Doree: But yes. Oh, that's funny because I'm looking at it right now and it says tall.

Kate: Oh, what Land's end. Are you messing with the two of us

Doree: Just saying

Kate: Okay. That's a little fishy, but All right. Land end. Yeah. I appreciate a long bathing suit because this torso is stretched.

Doree: Yeah, they have some cute suits.

Kate: They do. I really like this crisp purple awning stripe suit that they have. Oh, in the chlorine resistant area. They don't make it in long though, so you know what?

Doree: Wow.

Kate: I'm out. I'm out.

Doree: That is just insulting.

Kate: Rude. It's rude. But you know what? There has been a lot of growth in the tall space, so I do appreciate that there. I didn't mean that as a pun, but as a kid, as a young person, there were never tall bathing suits and I've been five foot 10 since I was like 11 years old, so my kids have a little bit of an easier time.

Doree: Yeah.

Kate: Yeah. Well, Doree, I love talking about this stuff.

Doree: Wow.

Kate: I would bust out some French for old time sake. And everyone, thanks for listening. We appreciate you.

Doree: All right. Take care.
